Mayor Launches Pothole Patrol, Previews Spring Roadworks

City Launches New Roadworks Website

With spring nearing, Mayor Dave Cieslewicz and city officials today launched the Pothole Patrol for this season, as well as previewed spring road construction projects and a new website to keep residents up to date on roadworks projects. "Potholes are a challenge to any community that deals with winter weather, but by taking a comprehensive approach, we can work to reduce their impact on our streets," said Mayor Cieslewicz. "Preventative maintenance, investment in technology and aggressive investment in street maintenance and reconstruction are the keys to success." Launched by Mayor Cieslewicz last year, the Pothole Patrol is an initiative to maintain and improve the quality of Madison streets damaged due to severe weather. The Pothole Patrol takes a comprehensive approach to dealing with potholes, ranging from short-term patching to long-term, multi-year street reconstruction projects. The Pothole Patrol also includes a website where members of the public can report potholes, get answers to frequently asked questions, see a map of problematic areas and learn more about what the City is doing to address the issue: www.cityofmadison.com/potholepatrol/. "The City Council and I have made a strong commitment to rebuilding main roadways that are in dire need of repair," Cieslewicz said. "This year we're moving forward on that promise by making major progress on main arterials like East Washington Avenue and University Avenue." The mayor also announced a new website that details road construction projects coming this spring, including major repair of University Avenue. The new Roadworks Portal includes information on current road construction projects, proposed projects, preventative maintenance of city streets and signups for email alerts to stay up to date on construction projects.
