Because of Her: Assistant Chief Angie Kamoske
postedFor 28 years, Assistant Chief Angie Kamoske has served the city of Madison, but her path to law enforcement wasn't always part of the plan.
"I wanted to be an astronaut in middle school," she said.
Her dreams of heading to outer space shifted by the time she graduated high school and changed again in college. After taking psychology and criminal justice classes, she opted to major in behavioral science and law.
Her career direction became clear during an internship with the Madison Police Department, where she quickly discovered a passion for policing.
"This department is unique and special. I feel fortunate I get to do what I love here," Kamoske said.
She spent 13 years working in patrol before being promoted to detective. From there, she continued to rise through the ranks, serving as a lieutenant and captain before stepping into the role of Assistant Chief in 2025 – a position few women have held within the department.
"We are a diverse department with diverse backgrounds. A place where different life experiences are appreciated," Kamoske said.
As we celebrate Women's History Month, Kamoske's career stands as a powerful example of dedication, leadership and service.
