Leaf Collection Suspended Due To Weather

The Streets Division has suspended fall leaf collection due to the snow that has fallen today and major storm predicted to hit later this week. "We are suspending leaf collection because we need staff for snow and ice operations," Madison recycling coordinator George Dreckmann said. "We may go back out of leaves if the forecast snow melts later, but that is a remote possibility." "So far this fall we have collected almost 18,000 tons of leaves," Dreckmann said. "This is a new record and shows that the vast majority of leaves have been collected already." Residents who still have leaves to be collected are urged to bring their leaves to the Streets Division drop off sites at either 1501 W. Badger Rd or 4602 Sycamore Av. These sites are open winter hours, which are M-F from 7:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. The site at 402 South Point Rd is closed for the season. Residents can also bag the leaves and hold on to them until the spring collection in April. "There is still time to start a compost pile," Dreckmann said.
