Let Me Introduce Myself & Home Sweet Home

Madison Municipal Building July 8 - August 31, 2010 Exhibition hours M-F 7:00-5:00, S 8:00-12:00, closed Sunday How does an artist introduce him or herself through print? The audience can evaluate how the artist speaks through their work using the magnificent visual language of line, texture, color, value, and scale. With the theme "Let Me Introduce Myself", each participating artist unfolds the idea of self-introduction in their work. As a preface to a book, each participant's print will become a greeting, a chance for each one to introduce themselves to one another. This exchange is an opportunity to discover each artist's processes of creative thinking and self-perception. "Home Sweet Home" highlights the finest examples of diverse artists' works, interpreting the theme of Home. Each portfolio participant explores the meaning and significance of Home in her life. While many of us travel, migrate or immigrate, settling either temporarily or permanently in different places around the country or world, the following questions arise: What is home to you? Is it a physical object, space or an emotional state? Does the meaning and importance of home come from your past, e.g. childhood, or is it found in your present environment? How does one describe or create a home? Each participating artist addresses these questions in their works that will be exhibited through the end of August. A local artist, Julia Taylor, organized this exhibition of two portfolio print exchanges showcasing original prints by emerging and professional artists. Fifty one works created in various print media, including traditional and experimental printmaking techniques, digital and photographic methods reflect participants' response to the print exchange themes: Home Sweet Home and Let Me Introduce Myself. The Madison Arts Commission's ARTspace program is open to all Madison visual artists who would like to showcase original two-dimensional works in highly utilized city spaces.
