Fire Damages East Side Repair Shop
City of Madison firefighters battled heavy smoke at an auto and truck repair shop this afternoon. Firefighters were called to 2310 Pennsylvania Avenue at 3:07. Upon arrival, crews observed smoke seeping from eaves and several bay doors at the side of the building. Engine Company 3 entered the building through the front door. The thick smoke masked flames in a storage area along one side of the shop. Once firefighters ventilated the roof, the crews inside were able to locate the fire and extinguish it within ten minutes of their arrival. No one was in the building when the firefighters arrived. The fire was called in by an employee in a neighboring business. A masonry wall separating the two businesses helped to contain the damage to the repair shop where the fire is believed to have started. The business is Bill's Auto and Truck Repair. The business suffered heavy smoke and heat damage. No damage estimate is available. A fire investigator is at the scene and the cause remains under investigation.
