City, County Join for 1-Day Sale of Weather Radios
In a fitting end to Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week, the City of Madison Fire Department and Dane County Emergency Management are partnering for a one-day sale of weather radios this Saturday, April 16 from 8 a.m. - Noon. The sale will be held at Madison's Firehouse #6, 825 West Badger Road. Last weekend's record-breaking storms were a dramatic reminder of the need for early warning to the unpredictable nature of Wisconsin weather. The County made a bulk purchase of NOAA All-Hazards Radios and is making them available to the public, at cost, to anyone wishing to purchase one. The radio being distributed is the Midland model WR-100 and will include 4-AA batteries. The batteries provide back-up power in the event of a power outage. The cost is $23.70 per radio plus $1.30 sales tax for a total cost of $25.00. This is a significant price break, as the usual price for this radio is about $50.00. About 500 radios are available for Saturday's sale, which is on a first come, first served basis. Cash or checks will be accepted, a credit card option is NOT available. Parking at Station #6 is limited. The Department of Administration is allowing residents to park on the ETF parking lot adjacent to the station lot.
