Two Transported With Burns Following Explosion
Two workers were injured in a basement explosion this afternoon at 150 North Prospect Ave. on the City's near West side. City of Madison firefighters were called to the scene at 12:26 p.m. They arrived to find two men who had been working on a basement remodel and two other occupants of the building. All had evacuated. The two men were transported to UW Hospitals. They had burns as a result of the explosion. The other two occupants were uninjured. Engine 4 entered the basement, where they found light smoke, but little fire. The force of the blast blew out two windows at the rear of the basement. Plastic sheeting that had been taped to the walls was essentially vaporized in the heat from the explosion. Crews found some remaining hot spots in the basement, which they extinguished. Fire investigators are at the scene working to determine the cause and origin of the explosion.
