Backyard Bash to Celebrate Goodman South Madison Library

The Madison Public Library Foundation will celebrate the Goodman South Madison Library Branch and the community that built it during the Goodman South Madison Backyard Bash on Saturday, Sep. 17. Families and friends will enjoy carnival fun - including free food, drinks, games, and entertainment. With the help of local businesses, private support and the local community, the Goodman South Branch opened its doors in the fall of 2010 after a renovation in the refurbished Villager Mall. "This was a neighborhood that didn't have a lot of indigenous resources so we had to rely on the rest of the community," said Tripp Widder, campaign cabinet chair and foundation board member. "The community came through and, as a result, not only met the goal, but raised enough to establish an endowment in excess of $100,000." Nearly a year later, community members continue to support their neighborhood branch with their time and monetary resources. Even after the conclusion of the campaign for the new library, the Burr Oaks Neighborhood Association raised $1,600 for new laptops that are essential to the branch's programming success. "The Backyard Bash is about honoring those that contribute to our library. The library patrons, the donors - we have such a committed community that truly sustains Goodman South," Branch Manager, Michael Spelman, said. The event will be 12 to 3pm on Sep. 17, at the Goodman South Madison Library (2222 South Park St.) All ages are welcome.
