Fire Damages West Side Restaurant

posted

City of Madison firefighters responded to Biaggi's restaurant, 601 Junction Road this morning for a fire in the dining room of the restaurant. The manager of the restaurant called 911 just before 8:00 this morning after seeing fire and smoke. Upon arrival, crews noted smoke above the restaurant. As they entered the building, the manager reported the fire had been extinguished. Crews investigated further and observed an orange glow under a pasta cooker in the kitchen. The cooker was located where the tile meets a stainless steel wall covering in the kitchen. Engine Company worked to gain access to the wall under the stainless steel, while Engine 12 pulled a hose line into the building. Ladder 2 went to the roof and checked for hot spots. Crews had concerns that the fire had spread in the attic since smoke was coming from the tower peak on the northwest side of the building. Firefighters were able to fully extinguish the fire by 9:00 a.m. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. A damage estimate was not yet available. There were no injuries.
