Due to Drought, Please Stay off Parks Turf

posted

Due to the heat, drought and turf conditions, Madison Parks is asking that all adult soccer and ultimate Frisbee games (scheduled games as well as any unscheduled practices or scrimmages) be temporarily suspended. The use of any athletic field or greenspace in a park under these extreme conditions will kill the turf, thus impacting future use of the field or park. Madison Parks will continue to monitor and review the park use and conditions. Tree watering - During this drought, Madison Parks Forestry officials are continuing to ask homeowners to help by watering their newly planted trees in front of their house. The root systems of trees planted in the last 2 years are not yet fully established and require some extra care. The city tree(s) as well as your own newly planted trees may require 10 gallons of water every week. Check the soil for moisture content. The soil should be moist, not saturated. People are encouraged to water in the early morning or early evening to minimize water loss from evaporation.
