The Training & Safety Division is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing all training activities for the Department. Under the supervision of Division Chief Tracy Burrus and led by Captain Sue Juedes, Department Training Officers prepare recruits for a career in the fire service and manage ongoing training for field personnel.
The training subdivision conducts the 20-week Recruit Academy for incoming firefighters. In addition, Training develops and delivers curriculum for all levels of commissioned personnel throughout the year.
In addition to training Fire Department personnel, training officers also continue to provide CPR/AED training to employees of:
- Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center
- City of Madison Parks Division
- City of Madison Engineering Division
- City of Madison Police Department
Best practices in safety on the fire ground are an integral part of all Department training.
