MFD Ladder 1 and Medic 1 Busy With Construction Site Accidents

posted

Two construction workers at different work sites were transported to the hospital by City of Madison Fire Department personnel. At 10:49 this morning, Madison Fire Department Ladder 1 and Medic 1 were called to the 600 Block of West Doty Street, the site of new 74-unit condominiums, for an injured construction worker. A gentleman had fallen approximately 4 to 5 feet on to a roof area. The Stevens Crane operator worked with MFD and hoisted the Stokes basket to the roof. Station #1 crew tended to the conscious patient and loaded him into the basket, which was then lowered to the ground where he was transported to St. Mary's Hospital. Then at approximately 11:30 am, Ladder 1 and Medic 1 were dispatched to 800 Langdon Street, Memorial Union, to another construction site for an injured worker. The construction worker slipped off a beam and fell, but his harness prevented him from falling to the ground. His co-workers managed to lower him to safety. Madison Fire Department Station #1 crews loaded the patient into the Stokes basket. Boldt Crane operator worked closely with MFD during the operation of getting the Stokes basket from an area below ground, to a level area where the Medic unit could load the patient into the ambulance. The patient was responding to the crew members while they tended to him. He was transported to UW Hospital. Both patients suffered non-life threatening injuries. City of Madison Fire Department would like to thank the crane operators from Stevens Construction Corporation and The Boldt Company, who assisted in the rescue of the injured workers.
