Release of Officer Use of Force Law Student Video
In the days and weeks following the tragic death of Tony Robinson, I held many meetings with community leaders in hopes of bringing people together to both address the concerns of our communities, and prepare our communities for the future. It is hard to see how anything positive can come out of anything so tragic, but that was, and continues to be my goal.
This video was created for the benefit of this community by a group of law students. The students are members of the Black Law Student Association and Latino/a Law Student Association, at the University of Wisconsin Law School. The video is called “Understanding Police Use of Deadly Force,” and it was created by these students for the purpose of educating the community on the legal issues surrounding the use of deadly force by police, how those incidents are investigated, and how prosecutors decide whether or not to file criminal charges against police officers in such cases.
Thank you to those community leaders who came together to support these students and our city: African American Council of Churches, Urban League of Greater Madison, Dane County NAACP, Centro Hispano, Literacy Network, and United Way.
Also, thank you to the law students for their tremendous work on this project.
This video will be available on many websites, including United Way, Urban League, NAACP and the City of Madison.
Thank you to Wisconsin Public Television for volunteering their services to make this video possible.
