Zero In Wisconsin

MPD & Dane County deputies join forces for safety

During the first eight deployments of WI Department of Transportation funded traffic safety grants, hundreds of traffic stops were made.   On November 2nd, the newly formed partnership between the Dane County Sheriff’s Office and the Madison Police Department traffic grant deployments was announced.  Since that time, eight deployments of Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) and Seatbelt grant overtime patrol have occurred.

During the five OWI grants, 313 traffic stops were made, and 5 were arrested for impaired driving.  In addition, 62 of those stopped had suspended or revoked licenses, and 92 speed citations were given.  Thirty people were cited for no seatbelt and 7 were arrested on other charges.

The 3 seatbelt grant deployments also resulted in the arrest of 3 impaired drivers, along with 40 speed citations and 30 suspended or revoked drivers.  Thirty-two people were cited for no seatbelt and 8 other arrests took place.  The total number of traffic stops during these deployments was 175.

As the holiday travel season draws near, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office and the Madison Police Department want to remind motorists that these grant patrols will continue to take place on a frequent basis.  Please give driving your full attention and always wear your seatbelt.  Our number one goal is zero traffic deaths on Wisconsin roads.
