Plows Named in 2025

Here's the names you selected for the plows in the winter of 2024-2025.

  • Trading card featuring Plower to People driving down a snowy road

In the Middle of a Snow: You'll find this plow on the near west side.

Imagine, No Confusion: Every time plows are sent out, the Streets Division publishes a Snow Plowing Update to explain the response. You can get these emailed to you from the City's winter website.

Plow On and On and On and On: Crews are ready to hit the roads around the clock, 7 days a week. And there is a standing night shift during the winter months in case there are any weather surprises.

  • Trading card of the Sno'diggity plow

Cover Much Ground?: No doubt, truck gets around. Plowing snow is its forte, from the east side to South Park Street.

Got to Plow it Up: Sno'diggity recently tested a special plow blade. It had spring-loaded sections designed to flex with the road surface in order to help the truck push more snow.

Street Knowledge: Plow drivers memorize their routes, or follow printed turn-by-turn directions. Forget what you've heard, there's no on-board device guiding them.

  • Trading card featuring Snowceratops, a truck with a large orange plow

Stomping Grounds: Far west side of Madison.

Scientific Name: Snowceratops brineidus from the Chionomachetes family.

It's Tremendous!: This tundra-smashing truck can pre-treat roads by applying brine before a snowstorm strikes. It can also be used as a traditional plow truck. It is larger than other plows, so it's perfect for the wide streets of the far west side.

  • Trading card featuring Mike Snowplowski, a small yellow tractor-style plow

Work station: Plows the bus stops and pathways on the east side of Snowopolis - um, we mean Madison.

Best friend: James P. "Snowey" Snowllivan.

Don't Forget the Paperwork: The Streets Division tracks all of the salt, sand, and brine used by the trucks - including this adorable lil' scoopedy bear! Mike has to turn in paperwork everyday just like everyone else.

  • Trading card featuring Princess Sleigha, a pick-up truck with a V-shaped plow

Work Area: Part of the squadron that plows city-owned parking lots and on-street paths on the west side. This includes the contraflow bike lane along University Avenue.

Underrated: A senator. A general. And can use the force (for pushing snow) and yet people only ever talk about Sleigha's brother, Flake Sidewalker, and that scruffy-looking Han Snowglobe.

Home Planet: Grew up on Snowedupon.

  • Trading card featuring Anne Pathaway, a Jeep with a plow

Plow Area: Covers six miles of pedestrian paths, sidewalks, and parking lots on the isthmus - including the Capitol City Trail.

Starred In: Rose to fame with The Plow Driver's Diaries and Alley Unsalted before graduating to more grownup roles in The Snowblower Wears Carhartt, Snow & Other Precipitation, and Rachel, Get the Snow Shovel.

Versatile Performer: In the summer, you may catch Anne carrying tools for softball field maintenance.

Award Winner: Won a coveted Flakey award for the role of Shiverine in La Saison Misérable.

Plows Named in 2023

Here's the plows you helped name in the winter of 2023.

  • Trading card featuring Seymour Pavement, a yellow front-loader plow

Plow Area: Cul-de-sacs & dead-ends in Southwest Madison

Surprising Duty: Helps with stump removal in the summer

Favorite Food: Salted & steamed hams

Seymour Says: "Make good choices, friends, and follow winter parking rules. That helps plows like me push snow from the roads, and it saves you from a ticket and a tow"

  • Trading card featuring Dolly Plowton, a large truck with a double-wing plow

    Work Area: Northeast Madison

First of Its Kind: Dolly is the first dual-wing plow in the City of Madison Fleet

Favorite Songs: Snowlene, Will Always Plow You In, and Traffic Islands in the Road

    Favorite Movie: Steel Plownolias

  • Trading card featuring Saltimus Prime, a large truck with a cylinder in the back

    Favorite Actor: Peter Cullen

    Capacity: 2,600 gallons of brine

    Favorite Activity: Rolling out

Job: Pretreat westside roads with saltwater brine to prevent snow from freezing to the pavement, reducing overall salt use.

  • Trading card featuring Snowbi Wan Kenobi, a small tractor-style plow

    Plow Area: Southwest Bike Path

    Favorite Force Power: Pushing (snow)

Biggest Regret: Being a poor mentor to Plowakin Snowwalker Versatility: Has 29 different attachments to help the Engineering Division all year long
