Green Markings

Some green markings were not able to be completed due to the early arrival of cold weather and will not be installed until 2020. These include green markings related to the E Johnson St project, the N Bassett St project and the crossing of the Wingra Creek Path at the east entrance of the Arboretum.


West Towne Path Extension and Underpass of Gammon Rd
Construction has started on Gammon Rd and travel will be difficult through this area. To access West Towne Mall bicyclists should use Mineral Point Rd. This project will include construction of a shared-use path from the Struck St ped/bike underpass to the west side of S Gammon Rd. The project includes a ped/bike upderpass of Gammon Rd. Old Sauk Rd
Parsi Construction will close Old Sauk Rd between Pope Farm Conservancy and Schewe Rd in order to construct underground utilities and make street improvements as part of the Pope Farm Estates development. The closure is expected to last through May 1. Motor vehicles will detour to Mineral Point Rd, Pioneer Rd and Pleasant View Rd. Bicyclists should continue on Old Sauk Rd to Big Stone Trail (south) to White Fox Lane to Heather Knoll Ln to the Pioneer Park Path to get back on Old Sauk Rd west of the project. It is also possible to take Old Stone Trail (north) to Winding Way to Blackhawk Rd to Twin Valley Rd.

Southwest Path Resurfacing
Two sections are scheduled for resurfacing in 2020 - Odana Rd to Glenway St and Commonwealth Ave to S Prospecct Ave. The contractor is allowed to do the work between the beginning of May and the beginning of September. The closure will be announced a minimum of 14 days in advance and will take no more than 5 days. Project Information

Southwest Path at Waite Circle
This project finished too late in the 2019 year to have final paving done so the contractor will return to pave in 2020.

Reindahl Park Path
The Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District has closed the Reindahl Park Path as a part of the Northeast Interceptor Project. The date of reopening is expected to be late Spring/early Summer 2020.

Greentree-Chapel Hills Park Path

As a part of the McKenna Blvd Flood Mitigation Project the path through the Greentree-Chapel Hills Parkis closed. This path provides a route from Elver Park to Schroeder Rd and Chapel Hill Rd. A marked detour will be in place and will use neighborhood streets except for a small section on Hammersley Rd. In addition, McKenna Blvd is  reduced to one lane in each direction from Morraine View Dr to Jacobs Way. Bicyclists who normally use McKenna Blvd should detour through Elver Park to avoid this section of roadway. Project Information


UW Madison

  • Arboretum - The Curtis Pond Rehabilitation Project will cause disruptions for users of the road. McCaffrey Dr between Seminole Highway and the Curtis Prairie parking lot will be congested with truck traffic and new stop signs have been installed at the construction area. At times flaggers will be directing traffic. Use extra caution in this area.
  • The Campus Drive Path behind the Veterinary Medicine building is closed through March 2020. The detour will use Easterday Lane to Linden Dr. Detour Map
  • Mills St - W Johnson to Conklin Pl
    The UW Chemistry Building project has closed Mills St from W Johnson to Conklin Pl until July 2020. The east sidewalk will remain open.
