City of Madison Website Navigation Tips & Projects
postedHello!
Fall is almost here, and the city is working on various projects around town. One place to find out about what is happening in the area is the City of Madison's website.
You can find most projects by simply entering a few keywords in the search box or by visiting specific agency pages within the site.
The website has an enormous amount of information. Allow me to share some tips I have picked up along the way.
The website name is www.cityofmadison.com
I will share a few navigation tips follow by an example of how to find Park's projects. Will also include at the end direct links to other agencies' project pages.
Basic Navigation & Structure:The landing page contains a menu of options at the top, a "search" box, and a sub-menu. As well as a diverse range of information: headlines, today's meetings, reporting a problem option, make a payment, agencies, and more.
The search box can be very useful and it acts as a Google search but for the City website.

From the top MAIN menu, let's focus our attention on the "Agencies". Click on the "Agencies" for a list to appear and scroll down to Parks. Click on "Parks" to go to the Park's page.

Each Agency page has its own menu. To learn about Park's projects, click on the "Project" tab from the Park's menu.
There is additional information about parks on the page including headlines and events.
Notice that below the Park's Menu the site indicates what page you are located, it is like the "you are here" on a map. Each of those links takes you to any of the prior pages listed.

The project page lands on a geographical representation as well as a list of each project. Browse the list and click on a project to learn more about it.

One project I learned about it today at the Board of Parks meeting is the MadBAT network. I encourage you to visit the project page and to take an interactive tour of the project plan map. Learn about this project, keep track of its process and share your thoughts!
