"Welcome Home were the first words that announced my return to the South District. For those that may not be aware, back in 2008 when I joined the Madison Police Department, I started my career in the South Police District. I was immediately embraced by the community and partnered with groups such as the "Boys and Girls Club," "Amigos en Azul", as well as Mount Zion's group "Cops, Community and Clergy." In 2009, I was saddened to leave the South District due to staffing and vowed that one day I would return. Click here to learn more about Capt. Zanders

A note from Allied Fresh:

Click here for flyer: Allied Fresh food - Friday afternoons starting April 28th from 3-4:30 PM
"Dear Friends and Stakeholders of Allied,

We are pleased to offer Allied Fresh food again to the Allied neighborhood on Friday afternoons starting April 28th from 3-4:30 pm. Knowing the community continues to identify needs related to affordable fresh food, Badger Prairie Needs Network (BPNN) has offered to parent a six week pilot project to deliver boxes of fresh produce, milk, eggs, bread, cheese, rice, corn flour, beans, and meat to two locations in Allied for pick up (see attached flyer for detailed information). BPNN will help us supplement the boxes with items that we cannot source from Second Harvest Food Bank. During the six-week pilot, we will apply for grant funds to continue the program for the remaining 28 weeks of this year. We are optimistic!

This program is not a substitute for the Allied Food Pantry (open on Wednesdays from 10 am-12 pm and 6-7:30 pm) but a complementary option for families that are not available to shop during those hours or get transportation to another pantry in Madison. We will continue to inform residents about the pantry options available to them in Madison.

Allied Fresh will have a limited number of food boxes that will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis. If a resident cannot pick up at one of the two in-neighborhood sites, they could have a neighbor or friend be a proxy and pick up for them. No ID is required. Residents will only be asked for the number of people living in the household.

This pilot is possible due to the support of Tracy Burton, Pantry Director from BPNN, Lori Peppard from Second Harvest Food Bank, and UW Madison students from the GROW Program.

Please distribute the flyer as you are able. We welcome any questions and feedback.
