Metro's Alerts, Tracking Tools & Message

posted

Hola!  Following is a message from Metro regarding routes disruptions and tools to stay up to date with changes.

"For the past couple of weeks, Metro has had to cancel certain trips and make other service adjustments due to a shortage of buses. Early this year, we’ve had challenges hiring mechanics and were down nearly 10 people at one point. Since that time we've been able to get new hires on board, with 8 currently in training. However, the time our existing staff is dedicating to training them is taking time away from repairs and required inspections. Once our new hires have completed training, we expect things to improve.

That being said, we anticipate having enough buses available to complete all scheduled trips through the end of the year because schools and universities are on winter break. Metro maintenance staff will be focusing on catching up over the holidays, and we hope to have the issue corrected by the time MMSD is back in session after the first of the new year.

We encourage passengers to sign up for Metro rider alerts for the most updated information. Service updates will continue to be posted on Metro’s website.

If vehicle shortages continue after the new year, the listed trips online will be impacted so riders are encouraged to plan ahead and take an alternate trip.

Canceled/late trips are recorded in Metro's operating systems, but this information might not always travel through to our bus tracking apps. Passengers have reported good results seeing these canceled trips using the Transit App. We’ve included that link on our website"
