SSM Clinic Neighborhood Meeting Monday Night

Here's a reminder about the upcoming SSM Health Fish Hatchery Campus Redevelopment Neighborhood Meeting.  This is the last of the three neighborhood meetings SSM scheduled to keep their neighbors in the loop.

The SSM Health team will share an overview of the project including site plan, building massing, landscape plan, and architectural finishes. The new 175,000 sq ft clinic will be located on Fish Hatchery Road, and will continue to provide high quality health care services including pediatrics, family medicine, women's health and internal medicine. The clinic will also feature two centers: oncology and orthopedics.

Let me add a quick note acknowledging SSM's commitment to listening to the neighborhood. As you're aware, SSM switched the location of their clinic from the Pick 'N Save site to a site on their own property, a choice they made in response to community concerns.  Had they not done so, the Pick 'N Save would have been demolished by now and we'd be scrambling with the effects of a gaping hole in grocery services on the South Side.

One can safely assume that SSM made this change at considerable expense, but they did so gracefully, not complaining or making a big stink of it.  This to me sets a rather high standard in terms of corporate responsibility.

SSM's commitment to community input continued with the three neighborhood meetings and three steering committee meetings they scheduled to sound out resident feedback around their new clinic.

Of course, not everyone will be happy with the outcome, but the work of being a good neighbor starts with a commitment to listen.

This is the way to do it. I'm hopeful others seeking to do major projects in District 13 are taking note.
