Office Hours This Week, Vilas Park Master Plan Survey

posted

Office Hours

I'll be holding office hours this Friday morning, 7:30 to 9:00, at Indie Coffee on Regent St. Yes, it's a busy time of year, but here's your opportunity to meet with me to discuss your concerns.  There's a lot going on in District 13, with no shortage of opinions about what's the right way to go on any given topic.

We may not always agree, but it's important we listen to one another and show each other respect.  And, as your representative on Common Council, I want to hear what you have to say. So come down to Indie Coffee early Friday morning, join me for a cup of coffee, and let's discuss your concerns.

Greenbush Neighborhood survey on Vilas Parks Master Plan

(Part 1: Traffic options for Vilas Park Drive)

The Greenbush Neighborhood Council and Greenbush Green Team want your input in order to help shape the city's Vilas Park Master Plan (see https://www.cityofmadison.com/parks/projects/vilas-henry-park-master-plan).

The survey is intended for residents who live near Vilas Park as well as those who count themselves among users of the Park.  In other words, if you live in Bay Creek or on the far end of Dudgeon-Monroe but frequent the Park and have thoughts about how it could be improved, your input is entirely welcome.

And since this survey addresses the oft-taken short cut from Monroe St to S. Park via Vilas Park Drive, please note this is an issue that deserves careful consideration.

One of the most important issues identified by neighbors so far in the planning process is that of traffic along Vilas Park Drive. Many people have expressed concern about the volume and speed of automobile traffic (particularly during commuting hours), and about the safety of walkers and bikers that are required to share the same space as automobiles.

Our Greenbush friends are interested in possible solutions you prefer to address these concerns.

You will have opportunities to weigh in on other Vilas Park planning issues before draft plans are developed early in 2020 and again before the Master Plan is finalized later in summer or fall of 2020.  I'll be sure to keep you posted of additional surveys as they become available.

In the meantime, you're invited to the next Greenbush Neighborhood meeting:

Greenbush Neighborhood Meeting to gather input on the Vilas Park Master Plan

6:15-8:00 PM, Monday, Jan 27, 2020

Arboretum Cohousing, 1137 Erin St.

Resident input is critical to the success of this planning effort, so please do take a moment to fill out the survey and consider getting involved.

Warm wishes of holiday cheer during these waning days of 2019. Keep warm, be safe, and enjoy!
