COVID-19 Update: Funny. Not Funny.
postedYes, this is serious, what we're going through, but a good belly laugh builds the immune system and relieves stress.
Here's what I've found funny recently:
Stephen Colbert's monologue Wed night.
But, like I said, this is serious. Medical professionals have a shortage of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), including masks. It's important if you have masks that you turn them in to those who can use them. There is talk locally about making masks at home, but there's some concern at this point as to whether this is in fact advisable. It may come to that and soon, however.
So turn in your medical masks if you're among the worried well. Instead of your own N-95 or surgical mask, consider wearing a scarf or bandana over your nose and mouth when going out in public to shop. This will limit to some extent your exposure in case someone near you sneezes, and it may help you not touch your face.
If you're not taking this seriously, you should. We are under a stay-at-home advisory. I expect this soon to become mandatory.
We know what works, what prevents the virus from spreading, but it takes everyone to participate. There can be no weak links in the human chain of public health.
Yes, to humor where we can find it, but an even bigger yes to doing absolutely everything within our means to save lives.
Be well. Be safe. Be kind.
