What to do When You're Hurting

posted

Today is a hard day.  The anniversary of 9/11, staggering wildfires brought on by climate change, the spike in local Covid cases, the fragile state of the economy, and two WI Supreme Court decisions that have the potential for lasting harm.

All that and the weather outside has been cold, wet and clammy all week.

It's in these moments we remind ourselves how much we need each other. It's okay to be vulnerable, to ask for help, to reach out to a friend or neighbor.  The District 13 Cares team is available to direct you to resources – just email district13cares@gmail.com or call 608.492.1331.

It's my hope that you'll find time this weekend to recharge, however that works best for you. Perhaps it's time with family and friends, perhaps it's time spent in reflection, journaling, prayer or meditation. The weather's supposed to turn on Sunday, so maybe that would be a good day to be outdoors, to get some fresh air and feel the warmth of sunshine.

Know that you are not alone. We're all struggling through this and there's no purchase in the stiff upper lip. It's a good time to reach out to that friend or family member you've been meaning to call.

Remember, a burden shared is a burden halved.

We will get through this together, building community and looking out for each other and treating each other with love and kindness.

Take care and stay safe.
