District 13 Updates: Truman Olson, More on Badger Football, MMSD Referenda

posted

Hi Everyone,

Here are today's updates.

Truman Olson Neighborhood Meeting

The last in a series of neighborhood meetings for the Truman Olson project will take place this Wednesday, September 30, from 6:30 – 8:00.  Please go to the project website for the Zoom link: http://trumanolson.com/

S. Park/Cedar St. Intersection

Related to the Truman Olson project, a public information meeting to solicit community input on options for the S. Park/Cedar St intersection will be held online October 27 at 5:30 pm. More details to follow.

Badger Football

There are two meetings this Wednesday to discuss Badger Football in preparation for the first home game on 10/24. The Joint Campus Area Committee will be having a Football Gameday COVID Policy Review/Discussion at its meeting this Wednesday, September 30. I requested this item be placed on the agenda to get an update as to UW's plans to mitigate potential impacts on residential neighborhoods adjacent to Camp Randall.

The Vending Oversight Committee also meets on Wednesday at 5:00 pm to discuss the possibility of suspending Camp Randall High Density Vending and Football Game Day site assignments for the remainder of the season, due to COVID-19.

Democracy in the Park

Democracy in the Park continues this Saturday, October 3 to allow voters an opportunity to easily and safely turn in their absentee ballots. Vilas Park Drive will again be open for the weekend, with the barricades returning next Monday morning.

MMSD Referenda

Speaking of voting,  as you know the November ballot includes two referenda questions regarding Madison Metropolitan School District operating and facilities budgets. The school district will be hosting a series of Facebook Live sessions with MMSD Superintendent Dr. Carlton Jenkins. For more information, please consider attending one of the following upcoming events:

October 1: West High School, 5:00-6:30pm

October 6: Spanish session, 6:30-8pm

October 7: Teletown hall meeting, 6-7pm

Madison Biking Adventure Project

For the regular bicycle rider, finding dedicated biking lanes and city streets to ride in Madison is relatively easy. If you're seeking a little adventure for your ride, your search can be a bit difficult. Residents have been asking for natural surface bicycle tracks. To respond to this demand and plan the addition of such amenities, Madison Parks applied for and received a planning grant from the International Mountain Bike Association (IMBA), an organization that specializes in bike facility planning projects such as these. The first step is creating a master plan document envisioning trail network locations and project goals with input from the community. The Parks Division is hosting three community engagement meetings, the first of which is on October 13.  For more information, click here.

City Meeting Schedule for this week.

That's all for now. Have a good week.

Take care and stay safe.
