New Public Health Order, Glenway Golf Course, Office Hours

Public Health Order #16

Public Health Madison - Dane County (PHMDC) released their most recent public health order, further loosening restrictions. We are making progress, a result of broad-based compliance with prior public health orders and the relatively high percentage of folks in Dane County who are getting the vaccine.

However, there are still some holdouts. The New York Times this morning has an interesting article on the psychology of those who have been reluctant to date. While it's true that some of this is due to political polarization, there's also an element of libertarian distrust of government combined with a worldview reminiscent of Whole Earth Catalogue-style health purists. The anti-vax movement has been going on for some time in this country and it's a big part of the narrative that stands in the way of herd immunity.

I never met my Uncle Alexander. He died of polio before I was born, before Jonas Salk developed the vaccine that appreciably eradicated polio and stopped the spread of this highly-infectious scourge.

It's critically important we all get vaccinated. The conspiracy theorists will continue to say COVID is a hoax, but the science is clear -- COVID is real, the vaccines are safe, and denying this reality is like claiming the earth is flat. 

So, please, if you're one of those holdouts, do the right thing and sign up for your shot!

Glenway Golf Park Public Input Meeting - Tonight!

The Glenway Golf Park project is moving forward and as they near construction the city has scheduled a public information meeting to provide updates on the project and next steps for this week.  They have worked with the UW turf team, the ecology team and the golf design team to finalize a plan that will significantly improve Glenway for golf, the environment, and additional potential uses.
