Redistricting -- Your Input is Welcomed and Encouraged!

posted

Hi all,

The City's redistricting process is moving along at a rapid pace. Resident feedback on existing & proposed maps is crucial to this process.

The primary opportunity for residents to provide their thoughts and feedback on alder redistricting is this week through a variety of methods:

View poster-size maps at the Monroe Street Library tomorrow, Friday September 24, between 10am and 1pm. You may also go to the Goodman South Library on S. Park between 1pm and 4pm. Redistricting staff will be available and comment forms will be provided.

Another way to get feedback is to visit the City's online interactive redistricting map to provide comments on redistricting scenarios. Dots on the map indicate where public comments have been received.

You may also email comments to redistricting@cityofmadison.com.  Comments must be received by this Sunday, September 26.

There are two maps under consideration. Map 5a, if adopted, would result in a portion of Bay Creek going to District 14. It would also transfer a portion of the northern section of Greenbush into District 8, which is historically been the UW Student District.  District 13 would pick up a large portion of the Nakoma neighborhood and wind around to the south of Lake Wingra.

The second option, Map 6, would not result in splitting any neighborhoods currently in District 13. D13 would gain a portion of the Regent Neighborhood, including Hillington Green Triangle Park and the surrounding residents located on the other side of the SW Commuter Path up to Regent Street.  D13 would also take in Westmoreland residents.

Your input is welcomed and encouraged, so if this at all interests you, please weigh in with your comments.

Thanks and stay safe.
