Budget, ADUs, Winter is Coming
postedDear Friends and Neighbors,
Here are this week's updates.
2022 Budget Approved
The Common Council approved the City of Madison 2022 Operating & Capital Budgets on Thursday evening, wrapping up an arduous three-day marathon. Largely thanks to federal recovery funds, we were able to balance the budget and invest in a number of priority areas including: homeless services, transit, resident engagement, and expanding the CARES program. The final approved budget will be posted to the city's budget website soon.
I'm particularly pleased my colleagues joined me in unanimously voting to expand the hours of the Monroe Street Library, which means the library will open five days a week early next year once additional staff is hired and trained.
Accessory Dwelling Unit Update
The Plan Commission received information on the proposed zoning changes to update our ADU regulation last week. You can read this brief memo from Planning & Zoning Staff and watch this 15-minute video of the presentation to Plan Commission to learn more about the proposal.
The Plan Commission is expected to take up the item along with a public hearing on Monday, November 22, 2021 and their recommendation will be in front of the Common Council on Tuesday, December 7. If you have any questions or comments on this proposal, please reach out to me at District13@cityofmadison.com.
Winter in our Parks
With wintery weather ahead, be sure to check out all the opportunities for outdoor fun to be had in Madison Parks. Whether it's a tried-and-true favorite or exploring a new activity, you're certain to find something you'll enjoy.
Take care, bundle up, and stay safe.
