Tomorrow is the Spring Election! 

Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. If you have not registered to vote, you can still register to vote on Election Day at your polling location.

April 7 is the deadline for provisional voters to submit ID. Voters who cast a provisional ballot at the polls have until 4 p.m. Friday to submit a copy of their ID to the Clerk's Office so their ballot can be counted by the Board of Canvassers.

Madison Parks Earth Day Challenge, Saturday, April 22

Register to Volunteer Today! Join Madison Parks for this year's Earth Day Challenge and volunteer to help clean up your neighborhood park on Saturday, April 22! For more than 20 years, Madison Parks has honored Earth Day by recruiting volunteers for the Earth Day Challenge. This year, Madison Parks is seeking more than 900 volunteers at 60+ parks to assist with trash pickup, raking, weeding, removing sticks, and more. All ages are welcome to participate. Advanced registration is required for anyone 10 years and older.

Bus Rapid Transit Construction (East Side)

There will be a Public Information Meeting,Thursday, April 6. Work will begin on East Washington Ave., Anderson St., and Mendota St. starting the week of April 3, 2023.

Construction is taking place in stages between 2023 and 2024.

Two Bird & Nature Adventures

Spring is a great time to see birds, particularly the migatory species returning from their winter locales. Dust off those binoculars and check out these weekend nature walks.

Owen Conversation Park, Saturday, April 8: Explore Owen Conservation Park on gentle trails through historic oak openings on a hillside with an Ice Age kettle and along restored prairies with beautiful vistas on this high point overlooking the west side of Madison. Co-sponsored by Madison Parks, Madison Audubon Society,  and the Friends of Owen Conservation Park . Free, family-friendly guided nature walks at Owen Conservation Park are held on the 2nd Saturday of each month, year-round 2:30-4pm. No registration is required. No pets are allowed.

Bird & Nature Adventures - Turville Point, Sunday, April 9: Follow rolling hiking paths through the Turville Point Conservation Park woodlands and prairie with beautiful vistas of Lake Monona and Monona Bay. Walks at Turville Point held on the 2nd Sunday every month are co-sponsored by Madison Bird City FUN partners, Madison Parks, Friends of Olin Turville , and Madison Audubon Society . Meet at the Turville Point parking lot, entrance at the E. Olin Ave. stoplight from John Nolen Drive at the railroad tracks, south of Olin Park (not at the boat launch). No registration is required. No pets are allowed.

Bystander CPR Training

Recently, two off-duty Madison Fire Department firefighter/EMTs are credited for providing bystander CPR to a man who collapsed on a street in D13 as a result of sudden cardiac arrest.

The Madison Fire Department was dispatched to the corner of John Nolen Drive and E. Lakeside Street after a 911 caller reported a jogger unresponsive on the sidewalk. While on-duty crews were en route to the location, two off-duty Madison firefighter/EMTs happened to be passing by in their vehicle. They noticed the patient on the ground and pulled over to provide aid. They quickly determined the man had no pulse, and they immediately began performing chest compressions.

Engine Co. 1, Ladder Co. 1, and Medic 5 arrived on scene within four minutes of dispatch. On-duty firefighter/EMTs and firefighter/paramedics took over patient care. The patient was moved to the ambulance, and lifesaving measures continued as crews began transport to SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital - Madison.

During transport, paramedics were able to establish a pulse, and the patient became responsive. The patient is currently in the hospital and on the road to recovery.

A message from the Madison Fire Department: Bystander CPR is a critical link in the "chain of survival." When someone collapses from sudden cardiac arrest, hands-only CPR helps keep oxygen flowing through the bloodstream to the brain until EMS arrives.
