District 19 News and Notes for November 7, 2016

posted

Hello Neighbors, here's a roundup of news in and affecting our area.

West Place redevelopment meeting tonight

Please join Ald. Skidmore and myself for a second neighborhood meeting to continue our discussion of the proposal by the Livesey Company for a 22-acre mixed use development on the NW corner of Mineral Point and Gammon Roads. The redevelopment process will include rezoning the property from a Suburban Employment (SE) to a Mixed Use Center (MXC) district. Phase One of this proposed master-planned development will include retail, residential, and commercial offices.

Monday, November 7th, 6-8PM
Radisson Hotel, 517 Grand Canyon Dr (Grand Canyon Ballroom)

Representatives from Urban Assets and Kee Architecture will present their concept and design proposal. Members of the Livesey Company will be available to answer your questions. We encourage you to attend the meeting to learn more about the proposal, meet the development team, and provide your input.

Colony Drive Day Care Approved

The proposed day care center on Colony Drive at Gammon has been approved by the city Plan Commission. The approval is conditioned on construction of a traffic signal at Colony and Gammon. How this signal will be financed and when it might be constructed are open questions at the moment. I'll be continuing to work with the applicant, city staff, and Ald. Skidmore (who represents the western half of the intersection) over the coming months to clarify the signal options and determine a path forward.

Lake Mendota Drive residential redevelopment meeting Thursday

The Spring Harbor Neighborhood Association Board and I are hosting a neighborhood meeting regarding a home replacement at 5404 Lake Mendota Drive:

Thursday, November 10, 7:00PM
Dale Heights Church, 5501 University Ave

Neighbors will remember a proposal last year for a very large house at this location. The new proposal is scaled down. Plans and documents can be downloaded here and will be available at the meeting. The Plan Commission hearing is scheduled for Nov. 21.
