Thank you, District 19!

posted

Today is my last day as Alder representing District 19 on the Madison Common Council. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank the residents of District 19 for the privilege to serve. I’ve greatly appreciated meeting so many of you either at my monthly office hours, via e-mail, phone, on the street, at neighborhood meetings, and at committee and Council meetings. Although it wasn’t always possible to find consensus on every issue, your engagement helped me with decisions that I believe helped Madison continue its journey to being a better and more equitable City for all of our residents. Please continue engaging on issues you care about – it is important.

It was an honor to have this job and I am proud of the things I was able to get done with my colleagues and, even more importantly with City staff. Nothing I accomplished was possible without the hard work and dedication of the amazing group of people that make up #TeamCity. There are higher paying jobs in the private sector with less stress and fewer budget constraints, but City staff show up every day to solve challenging problems because they truly love this city. I’m so grateful for the ability to have worked with so many amazing people. Thank you so very much for your service!

My successor, Alder Kristen Slack, will take the oath of office tomorrow afternoon. She’ll take over this blog and district19@cityofmadison.com e-mail address. I wish her the best of luck!
