A friendly reminder about leashing your dog

posted

I just learned of a recent incident in which a dog owner was walking an unleashed dog which aggressively confronted a young child. This is just a reminder that Madison and Dane County ordinances require that dogs and cats must be leashed whenever not on the pet owner's property. The exception is off-leash areas in certain designated parks.

Animal control is administered by Public Health Madison and Dane County. Learn more about licensing and owner obligations at this website link.

To report dog bites and improperly off-leash dogs, call animal control at 608.255.2345. A pet owner's failure to observe pet licensing rules can end very badly for the pet.

One last reminder about pet etiquette - owners have no right to walk their pets on the property of others, which includes lake shorelines above the high-water mark.
