Leaf and Yard Waste Make-up Collection Attempt
postedThe Plan
If your home had a November 30, 202,5 set out date for leaves and yard waste, the Streets Division will be making an attempt to collect your leaves on January 7 and January 8, 2026. If the weather allows, crews will deploy to this duty one more time on January 9, 2026.
Will the Streets Division get to every home that had a November 30 set out date during this make-up collection attempt?
The Streets Division doesn’t know. Collection progress will be slower than it is during the fall. Crews are going to do their best in the short window of available time to get to as many homes that had a November 30 set out date that they can. How much ground they can actually cover is unknown.
Will the crews get all of the leaves and yard waste set out?
The Streets Division crews will attempt to collect accessible leaf and yard waste piles from residents that had a November 30 set out date. However, they may not be able to get all of the piles as some things may remain frozen or obscured by snow. Crews will also try to avoid damaging Streets equipment and the terraces the best they can during the pickup. The pickup might not look as complete as it usually does in the fall, but crews are going to try their best.
Expect leaf debris in the road.
Streets Division does not anticipate being able to use street sweepers to clean up behind the leaf collection operations. During the fall, street sweepers trail behind leaf crews to gather up any leaf litter created by the pickup process. In the winter, sweepers are down for an annual maintenance overhaul. Plus, since street sweepers require water to work, they are generally unavailable to use in cold temperatures or on snowy roads.
How do you know if you had a November 30 set out date?
Enter your address into this form. Then click where it says "All yard waste set out dates." The set out dates for the fall of 2025 will pop up. If your final set out date for 2025 was November 30, The Streets Division hopes to get to your home soon. If your final set out date was November 9 or November 16, you will not see crews during this make-up attempt.
Why is the Streets Division doing this for neighborhoods that had a November 30 set out date?
Neighborhoods that were scheduled to have a November 30 set out date never received their scheduled final pickup. On November 29, 2025, Madison received nearly one foot of snow. That caused Streets to suspend leaf pickup. And Madison had a sustained run of cold, more snow, and then the holidays that all prevented Streets from trying to make up for the pickup it needed to miss. Streets finally has a chance to make an attempt to make-up for the collection weather forced us to miss.
What about neighborhoods that had different set out dates?
If your neighborhood had a November 9 or November 16 set out date, Streets is sorry, but this make-up collection is not for you. Streets is focusing just on the neighborhoods that had a November 30 set out date, since they did not get their scheduled pickup because of the snow. Neighborhoods with November 9 and November 16 set out dates received their final pickup as scheduled.
