Call to Action on Gun Violence in Our Community

posted

Dear District 20 Neighbors:

The gun violence and shots fired in District 20 and on the Westside are absolutely unacceptable. It is a priority to me to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all residents in the 20th Aldermanic District and throughout the City of Madison.

I am very concerned about what is occurring. I have been proactively working with the Mayor's Office, Police Chief, local MPD Captain, local neighborhood associations, community leaders, and key stakeholders to address this violence.

On August 27, 2020, other west side alders and I hosted a Westside Public Safety meeting to address these matters. We are hosting a follow-up Westside Community Conversation on September 24th. We are obviously not doing enough.

I am ready to do whatever I can in my capacity as an alder to devise and implement effective measures to stop the violence. Business as usual is proving to not be effective. I look forward to working with city leadership, neighbors, and stakeholders to swiftly and effectively address the gun violence that we are experiencing.

This is an all hands-on-deck moment in our city and I am challenging everyone to do their part to stop this gun violence immediately!

Respectfully Submitted,

Christian Albouras
