Today, 12:00 noon -1:00 pm.
Focus: Important Winter Updates
Alder Harrington-McKinney will join Alder Nasra Wehelie in hosting a virtual Lunch and Learn today,f12 noon - 1 p.m. The focus will be on City of Madison winter services, specifically snowplowing.
Bryan Johnson, the Public Information Officer of the Streets Division, will provide City of Madison residents with a comprehensive presentation on how the Streets Division responds to winter events, common misconceptions, and answer questions from residents.
Did you know there are 1,818 miles of traffic lanes to cover in the City of Madison? The Lunch and Learn will provide residents with an in-depth look at what all is involved in plow and salt truck deployment.
Bryan will also talk about the city’s salt reduction efforts and why this is important, alternate side parking rules, and other winter topics. While some information will be specific to aldermanic districts 7 and 20, the majority of information will be relevant citywide, so all are welcome to attend.
The Lunch and Learn will serve as an effective way to inform and engage residents over the lunch hour about important winter updates and information.
There will be limited time for a Q&A at the end of the presentation. We request that attendees limit their questions to one minute.
Attendees are invited to submit additional questions to Lorissa Banuelos, Community Engagement Strategist in the Council Office by email lbanuelos@cityofmadison.com. Please include “December 14 Lunch and Learn question” in the subject line.
For more information, please contact Alder Nasra Wehelie by email district7@cityofmadison.com or or Alder Barbara Harrington-McKinney, by email district20@cityofmadison.com.

State Street Campus Garage, Lake Street Side Closing
posted December 12, 2023 – 1:24 pm
The State Street Campus Garage, Lake Street structure, located at 415 N Lake St, will permanently close on December 27, 2023. Staff is working with impacted Monthly Parking Permit holders to relocate them to alternative City facilities, or find other parking solutions.
This location will be redeveloped into a mixed-use property that will include a new parking garage, student housing, and an inter-city bus terminal. The Frances Street side of the State Street Campus Garage will remain open during construction, though space will be limited due to the capacity reduction with the Lake garage closure. We encourage customers to use the City’s real-time garage availability tracker prior to visiting this location or use alternate garages for the duration of this closure. You can locate the City operated garages and rates nearest to your destination by visiting Parking’s Garages and Lots webpage.
Construction is scheduled to begin early 2024, which will include a full demolition and rebuild of the site. The Parking Division anticipates the new development will reopen in the fall of 2026.
