Well 19 public info meeting TOMORROW, Glenway Woods input sought, events & announcements

Upcoming opportunities for public comment:

• TOMORROW, July 6, 6pm, Eagle Heights community center – Well 19 public information meeting. This well provides water to a portion of our district. Please come learn about the plans for an upcoming treatment project. A short presentation will be given by Water Utility staff, followed by an opportunity for public input. Following the presentation, interested parties are encouraged to join a tour of the Well 19 site (weather permitting). 
• July 13, 1-5pm AND July 14, 1-7pm, Sequoya library – listening sessions regarding planned improvements to Glenway Woods. Michael Mencarini, a Community Planner with the Midwest Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance (RTCA) Team, will serve as an advisor to the Madison Parks Division for the next year as part of this project. He will be available to meet with community members to gather their input on planning considerations and opportunities for future discussions related to Glenway Woods. Please note that this is just the first of many opportunities to share your ideas for Glenway Woods!
• July 13, 1pm - public information meeting about the purpose, aims, and scope of the new Building Energy Savings Program. The program will include energy benchmarking, periodic tune-ups, and other supporting initiatives to help commercial building owners identify opportunities to increase energy efficiency and save money.

What’s happening at West High?:

• You may have noticed the eastern playing fields now include a temporary parking area. This is because construction at West has eliminated parking for teachers and staff. Thanks to everyone for their patience with this disruption to the neighborhood.
• The schematics showing all of the planned updates to West during this reconstruction are now available!

Events:

• Art Fair on the Square will be held this weekend, July 9-10.
• Madison Contemporary Dance, a Madison-based nonprofit dance company, will perform at Art Fair on the Square on Saturday, July 9, at 3:30.
• Reopening of The Glen Golf Park, Sunday, July 10 (rain date Sunday, July 17), from 3pm-7pm.
• Maxwell Street days will be held July 14-17.
• Barre 3 in the park at The Glen on July 21 at 7pm. This will be a donation-based class, with proceeds going to Friends of Lake Wingra.
• The 14th Annual Madison Mini Marathon is coming up on July 23rd. 
• MadLit is back this summer on Fridays, 8pm-11pm, on the 100 block of State Street.
• Madison Public Library invites you to enjoy child-led play at Reindahl and Meadowood Parks this summer on Wednesday evenings from 5-7PM. These outdoor play events focus on letting children explore and take risks. The library will provide special play equipment to spark your children's imagination. Messy clothes and a water bottle are encouraged. If you'd like, bring along a picnic dinner and make an evening of it! All ages and abilities welcome. There will be eight Wild Rumpus events throughout the summer.

Announcements:

• The National Maternal Mental Health Hotline is now available 24/7. Call 1-833-9-HELP4MOMS for free, confidential support before, during, and after pregnancy.
• Beginning July 16, 988 will be the new three-digit dialing code connecting people to the existing National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, where compassionate, accessible care and support is available for anyone experiencing mental health-related distress—including thoughts of suicide, mental health or substance use crisis, or any other kind of emotional distress. People can also dial 988 if they are worried about a loved one who may need crisis support. Until then, those experiencing a mental health-related or suicidal crisis, or those looking to help a loved one through a crisis, should continue to call the Lifeline at its current number, 1-800-273-8255.
  • 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline Volunteer and Job Opportunities. The 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline is seeking empathetic volunteers, employees, and interns to serve as crisis counselors answering phone, chats and texts, as well as managers with advanced degrees. You will receive training, so if you are a caring person who wants to help those in crisis, apply today.
• The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) provides eligible households $30 per month off their internet bills.
• Medicare Savings Programs (MSP) are federally funded programs administered by state Medicaid Programs to help those with limited income and resources pay some or all of their Medicare premiums, deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance. 
• As the upcoming school year quickly approaches, the City of Madison Traffic Engineering Division is hiring a number of qualified candidates to work part-time as a School Crossing Guard. Though vacancies exist in several areas, the city sees the greatest need for applicants on the west side of Madison.
• Kids aged 6 months to less than 5 years old are now eligible to be vaccinated against COVID-19. Public Health Madison & Dane County recommends that you first check with your child’s pediatrician to see if they are able to vaccinate. Many local pharmacies are offering appointments, as are our Public Health clinics.
• Free bus passes are available for ALL middle and high school students for the summer.
