As October comes to a close, our city continues to move forward on important planning, budget, and community initiatives that shape Madison’s future. This week includes several key city meetings, public input sessions, and family-friendly events as we approach the holiday season.

Updates and Notices

Finding parking downtown or near city events should be simple! The City of Madison Parking webpage provides real-time updates on available parking in city garages and lots, along with details about parking permits and payment options. Whether you’re visiting for a meeting or an event, check the Parking page to make your trip easier.

Meetings of Note

This week includes several important meetings where key city issues will be discussed:

  • Finance CommitteeMonday, October 27, 4:30 p.m. (Hybrid)
    The committee will continue deliberations on the 2026 Executive Operating Budget. Public participation and engagement are welcome as the City works toward a balanced and equitable budget that supports essential services for all residents.
     
  • Common CouncilTuesday, October 28, 6:30 p.m. (Hybrid)
    The Council will consider several significant items, including a proposal to allow anyone to submit a complaint to the Ethics Board and adoption of the 2025–2030 Park and Open Space Plan, which will guide the city’s investment in parks and recreational spaces for the next five years.
     
  • Board of Public WorksWednesday, October 29, 4:30 p.m. (Virtual)
    The Board will review the updated Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan, continuing the City’s commitment to accessibility and inclusion across all public facilities.

  • Southwest Area Plan Public Meeting (Virtual)Wednesday, October 29
    Learn about draft plan actions for the Southwest Area Plan and share your feedback on how we can make the area more vibrant and connected.
  • Public Input Meeting: Canter and Woods Farm ParksWednesday, October 29
    Madison Parks Division will begin the design process for two new park master plans on the northeast side.
  • Southwest Area Plan Public Meeting (Virtual)Thursday, October 30
    Another opportunity to review and discuss the draft actions and planning goals.

Announcements and News

  • Get Vaccinated! Public Health Madison & Dane County encourages everyone to stay up to date on flu and COVID-19 vaccines. Protect yourself and those around you as we enter the colder months.
  • John Nolen Drive Overnight Closures: Northbound lanes will close nightly (7 p.m.–6 a.m.) from Olin Avenue to North Shore Drive beginning Monday, October 27, for storm sewer installation.
  • Food Scraps Recycling Ends November 1: There’s still time to bring food scraps to a participating farmers’ market drop-off site before the program wraps up for the season.

    Celebrate Halloween downtown with a hayride and outdoor movie!
  • Warner Family Fun Night | Halloween CelebrationFriday, October 31
    Enjoy art, games, movies, and family fun at the Warner Park Community Recreation Center.
  • Vaccination Clinic at Goodman Community CenterSaturday, November 1
    Free vaccines are available for eligible children and adults.

Meeting and Event Highlights for the Week of October 27, 2025

Public Information Meetings (PIMs)

  • Southwest Area Plan Public Meeting: Virtual Option, Wednesday, October 29This meeting will provide an overview of issues and opportunities in the planning area and offer a chance to review and comment on draft plan actions. Presentations at the virtual meetings will be followed by discussion and feedback.
  • Public Input Meeting - Canter and Woods Farm Parks, Wednesday, October 29The City of Madison Parks Division is starting the design process for both Woods Farm Park and Canter Park on the northeast side of the city. Each park is approximately 5 acres. In anticipation of further growth in the neighborhood, a master plan is being put together to guide the development of these two existing parks.
