2025 Planning Division Annual Report
Letter from the Director
The Planning Division provides a range of services to support our community's future. This includes creating plans and supporting and guiding projects that help implement them. The 35 people on our team work every day with City agencies, elected officials and the public to make it all happen. Collaboration was a major theme throughout our work in 2025. Some notable collaborations include:
- With elected officials on over a dozen ordinance changes to support the city's housing needs
- With Downtown Madison Inc. (DMI) to launch the Envision Downtown Madison planning process
- With MMSD to share information about development issues and plan for school needs
- With community members to fund park improvements identified in recently adopted plans
- With the library, parking, and other City departments to create public art for new City buildings
- With elected officials in Dane County to understand how people who don't drive get where they need to go
- With the University of Wisconsin-Madison to make data about our community available to the public
These are a few highlights of the ways we worked with our partners last year. This report provides more information about these projects and other activities from the year.
We are presenting this annual report as a digital report for the first time. We're excited to share it on our new website that we launched in early 2026. This report was also edited to be more accessible and help demystify our work. We hope the new format and updated content will help us connect with more people in our community. Use the links to the left to see each section of the report.
On behalf of our team, I also want to thank all who participated in our work last year. This includes community members who shared their voices, board and committee volunteers, and our project partners.
