Over the summer, the Madison Fire Department trained seventeen new Apparatus Engineers to fill vacancies left behind by recent or upcoming promotions or retirements.
Apparatus Engineers are “second in command” in a fire station. Candidates for the position vie for the promotion through a competitive process that includes a written test, an “over the road” driving examination, and a practical skills test involving engine pumping and aerial rescue operations.
Eight individuals were recently promoted, taking over as the driver of the Engine and/or Ladder truck, depending on their station. We’re delighted to introduce them to you in the coming days on the MFD Blog!
