A 22-year veteran of the Madison Fire Department is receiving top honors from the Wisconsin EMS Association (WEMSA). Jon Frank, a firefighter/paramedic at Fire Station 8, has been named the 2023 WEMSA Paramedic of the Year.

Frank is recognized for his “unwavering commitment, exemplary leadership, and profound impact on the field of emergency medical service,” according to a statement by WEMSA. During his tenure at the Madison Fire Department, Frank has trained and mentored numerous paramedic students, inspired and motivated his colleagues to reach their fullest potential, and remained dedicated to saving lives.

As a paramedic on Medic 8, Frank serves on one of the city’s busiest ambulances and is a senior paramedic for the MFD Heavy Urban Rescue Team. He was recently recognized by State Representative Samba Baldeh as one of Wisconsin’s First Responders Of the Year

"In an era where the spotlight on Emergency Services is more crucial than ever, we are thrilled to honor our award recipients,” said Alan DeYoung, Executive Director of WEMSA. “Their unwavering commitment and exceptional service exemplify their ability to exceed expectations and persevere through challenges.”

Frank and other honorees from around the state will receive their awards at the Wisconsin EMS Association’s Conference and Expo next month.
