34.725624, -86.76446
Incident Details
A Madison man was on his way to his job cleaning a local tavern when he heard a loud ‘pop’ sound from the engine compartment of his Buick LeSabre. Suddenly smoke began filling the car.
The engine compartment was fully engulfed in fire when Engine Company 3 rolled up to Pennsylvania Avenue. The owner was safely out of his vehicle as the crew forced open the hood and attacked the fire with a water-foam concentrate. The fire was quickly knocked down, and firefighters confirmed the flames did not spread into the vehicle’s passenger compartment.
The cause of the fire is unknown. The owner says no recent work or general maintenance had been done on the vehicle, and it is usually kept indoors when not in use.
