Incident Details
The Madison Fire Department’s Fire Investigation Team and Madison Police are investigating a pair of fires that occurred on the playground of Lindbergh Elementary School.
Engine 10 was first dispatched to 4500 Kennedy Road at 5:30 PM for a fire in the woodchips around the base of the playground slide. Firefighters found smoldering woodchips and evidence of a fire that burned through the top of the slide. Additional woodchips were found inside the slide, still smoldering.
Firefighters sprayed down the slide with water and foam and saturated the areas around and under the slide.
At 6:56 PM, Engine 10 was called back to the same location. Upon arrival at this second call, they found the playground structure fully involved with fire and heavy black smoke in the air. Firefighters stretched their 450-foot attack hose and used approximately 300 gallons of water and fire suppression foam to extinguish the fire.
The MFD Fire Investigation Team and Madison Police are investigating the fires as arson.
