Incident Details
Engine 1 responded to 626 University Avenue for a report of a gas leak. Workers inside the property, which is under renovation, reported smelling natural gas in the kitchen area and had shut off the main gas line in the basement prior to firefighters' arrival.
Firefighters entered the kitchen with an air monitor and detected readings indicating the presence of natural gas. Engine 1 immediately noted the gas supply valve to the stove was not completely closed off, so firefighters closed the valve and started ventilating the building.
MGE arrived shortly after and remained on scene to restore gas service once the natural gas levels inside the building dissipated.
