Cieslewicz Statement on Governor Doyle's Budget

posted

Madison - Mayor Dave Cieslewicz made the following statement today regarding Governor Doyle's state budget proposal: "Governor Doyle's budget provides valuable new resources for local governments to provide basic services such as fire and police protection. The increased funding for shared revenue, transit and transportation aids will help Madison fund public safety, maintain our streets and provide quality public transportation options. "As the legislative process unfolds, it is my hope that we can build on this proposal, and enact a 'First Responders' initiative to help cities, villages and towns fund public safety needs such as putting additional police officers on our streets. "Governor Doyle's budget also includes investments in our community and our children. He has included $1 million in funding for a pilot program in Dane County to provide comprehensive support services for low-income children and their families, building on an established program created by County Executive Falk for the Allied Drive neighborhood. "I look forward to working with the administration and the Legislature as the budget process moves forward in the months to come."
