Phase 2 of Highland Avenue Project Begins Monday
Beginning at 5:00 am on Monday, June 30, the Madison Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) will begin Stage 2 of its Highland Avenue project. Southbound Highland Avenue will close at the VA Hospital driveway, and the westbound on-ramp from Highland Avenue to Campus Drive will also close.
During the Stage 2 closure, southbound traffic on Highland Avenue will be forced to make a U-turn at the VA Hospital driveway intersection and head northbound on Highland Avenue. The current closure of the westbound off-ramp will remain in place as it currently is.

These closures are expected to last four weeks—until approximately Monday, July 28. At that time, the project will move to Stage 3, and southbound Highland Avenue and the westbound off-ramp will reopen, and only the westbound on-ramp will remain closed. Stage 3 is expected to remain until late August/early September.
Drivers are advised to plan alternate routes and follow posted detour signage. City of Madison Traffic Engineering will monitor and adjust traffic signal timing for the rerouted traffic.
