5 Bison Collected, 15 to Go: Madison’s Food Scraps Program Stampeding Toward Its Goal

posted

The City of Madison has three drop-off sites for food scraps at neighborhood farmers’ markets.

They are located at the South Madison Farmers’ Market, the Eastside Madison Farmers’ Market, and the Westside Community Market.

This year, we want to collect 40,000 pounds of food scraps for composting, which is about to the weight of 20 hefty bison.

So far this market season, we’ve collected over 10,000 pounds of scraps for composting – that’s 5 bison worth of scraps!

Great job, Madison!  That means we have about 30,000 pounds (or 15 bison) worth of food scraps to go to reach our goal.

With your help, and your compostable food scraps, we will reach our goal by the end of the market season.

How You Can Join the Composting Herd

It’s easy!

Just bring the appropriate food scraps to the market closest to you.

The City of Madison food scraps composting website has details about our three market locations, hours, and the scraps we can accept.

At the market sites, we have free buckets to help you carry your scraps to the market, free guides, fun little stickers for your water bottle, travel mug, or laptop.

On our food scraps website, we also have resources to help you prevent food waste and links to food donation opportunities

We hope to see you at the market.
