Olin Avenue Brush Processing Site Will Stop Accepting Brush and Wood Chips from Contractors Starting July 14, 2025

posted

Starting on July 14, 2025, the Street and Urban Forestry Division’s brush processing center on 121 E. Olin Avenue will stop accepting brush and wood chips for processing from contractors.

Contractors, such as tree service professionals and landscapers, must choose alternative brush processing options, such as the facilities available at Dane County Landfill or private brush processing options.

Why will contractors not be able to use the brush processing facility?

The change is necessary due to a construction project at the Olin Avenue site to make improvements for a new drop-off site space.  The project will limit our brush storage capacity while the work is ongoing.

The construction project is expected to last until December 2025.

At this time, it is unknown if brush processing services for contractors will return once the project is completed. The final footprint of the site, future budget, and other concerns will need to be weighed.

Can residents still bring brush to the drop-off sites?

Yes.

The drop-off sites for residents will not change.  There are no changes to drop-off site rules. Residents can still take brush to the Streets Division drop-off sites.

The only change to services relates to the commercial-scale brush processing provided to contractors, like private tree service professionals, landscapers, and so on.

Will the Streets Division still collect my brush at the curb?

Yes.

Brush collection at the curb for residents will stay the same. There will be no changes to the brush pickup schedule or the brush collection rules

Again, the only change relates to the large scale brush processing provided to contractors.
