Statement from Mayor Rhodes-Conway

“On the one-year mark of the tragic event at Abundant Life Christian School, the Madison community is mourning the loss of teacher Erin West and student Rubi Vergara. All of the victims of this senseless act are in our hearts and we are wishing a swift recovery to Samy, who is seeking care at a Chicago-area facility. 

I am proud of how Madison came together in the aftermath of this tragedy. I want to express my deepest appreciation for the first responders, public employees, and medical personnel who immediately stepped forward to keep our community safe. Countless others responded with generosity, thoughtful acts, and support services — many of which continue to this day. Thank you. I know these efforts are appreciated by the ALCS community as they chart a positive path forward.
