Women in Construction Week 2026 Stories Ahead
The City of Madison is proud to join the nationally recognized Women in Construction Week, March 1-7, 2026.
This is the seventh year the City will highlight the work of women and their different career paths in the construction industry. This year's theme is "Level Up. Build Strong.”
Starting March 3, the City will elevate the work of our staff and their journey in the construction industry with social media posts, written articles and video features.
By sharing these stories, we hope to raise awareness of the opportunities and the wide variety of paths and careers in the construction industry. The following women will be highlighted:
- Shelley Johnson, Leadworker, Parks Division
- Jamie Nichols, Operator, Streets Division
- Karime Grajales-Patton, Code Enforcement Officer, Building Inspection Division

Don't miss the written stories and videos on City Engineering's social media channels and website all week long.

NAWIC was founded in 1953 by 16 women working in the construction industry to create a support network for women working in a male-dominated field. It gained its national charter in 1955 and now has over 115 chapters across the country, as well as several international affiliates.
