Rainy Friday, Urban Flash Flooding Possible Thanks to Frost
The City of Madison is monitoring the incoming rain systems expected to arrive in the greater Madison area on Friday and Friday night. Heavy rain could be possible at times and severe storms are possible Friday afternoon into evening.
The chances of minimal flash flooding are possible because the frost in the ground has not fully thawed yet this season, which means less water can soak into the ground.
If we experience heavy rain, the community should avoid historically flash flooded areas during this rain system in the following areas:
- E. Mifflin St. at N. Blount St. and E. Mifflin St. at N. Livingston St.
- E. Johnson St. at N. Third St.
- University Ave. & N. Midvale Blvd.
Proactive Debris Clearing
The City of Madison Engineering Division operations crews are working to remove debris from high priority grates to make sure the stormwater system works as well as it can leading up to the forecasted rain.
