National Register of Historic Places
The National Register is an honorary designation from the National Park Service that comes with financial incentives. There are many National Register districts and individually-designated properties in Madison.
This is separate from local historic designations by the Madison Landmarks Commission. The commission does not regulate the National Register program.
There are two tax credit programs available through the Wisconsin Historical Society:
- Rehabilitation of income-producing properties (commercial or rental)
- Rehabilitation of single-family homes
Visit the Wisconsin Historical Society for more information about tax credits.
