Hello, neighbors! Here is your weekly roundup of what is happening in Madison and our community. Your voice matters in the decisions that shape our neighborhoods, and there are several opportunities this week to make it heard.

Call for Nominations: Reverend James C. Wright Human Rights Award

The City of Madison Equal Opportunities Division (EOD) and the Equal Opportunities Commission are accepting nominations for the Reverend James C. Wright Human Rights Award. This annual award honors the legacy of Rev. Wright, who led the Equal Opportunities Commission from its founding in 1968 through his retirement in 1992. One or more awards will be presented this year.

City Board, Commission, and Committee Meetings

Coming up this week, there are several City meetings where your voice can make a difference. Here is what is on the agenda. All meetings are listed on the City's

City Finance Committee | Monday, April 13, 4:30 p.m. | Virtual

Items on the agenda include authorizing the Parks Division to purchase 8.86 acres at 1010 North Street (District 12), and authorizing the purchase of 3030 Darbo Drive (District 15).

Plan Commission | Monday, April 13, 5:30 p.m. | Virtual

Development-related requests in Districts 1, 2, 6, 9, 12, 13, and 14 will be reviewed.

Transportation Commission | Wednesday, April 15, 5:00 p.m.

The agenda includes a discussion about short-term solutions to improve traffic safety on Park Street and similar arterial streets. This one matters for our neighbors who travel Park Street every day.

Public Input Opportunities

There are several chances this week to weigh in on decisions that affect our parks, streets, and neighborhoods. Every perspective helps shape better outcomes for everyone.

The City is sharing preferred alternatives for the Perry Street Reconnection Study. Registration is required to attend.

Madison Parks is holding virtual sessions to develop Park Development Plans for neighborhood parks in the Southwest Plan Area.

City staff will share revised playground equipment options based on previous community input. Come see what your neighbors said and add your voice.

The Parks Division is beginning the design process for this nearly 15-acre park on Madison's north side, with significant residential development planned nearby.

Northsiders who bike know our bicycle infrastructure lags behind other parts of Madison. This free panel discussion and Q&A forum asks: what changes do we want, and how do we make them happen? In person at Cool Bikes North or live streamed. Email info@coolbikesnorth.com for the stream link.

Help support East High clubs and athletics at the Booster Club's biggest fundraiser of the year!
